Description

If your weekend wear is verging on stodgy, the girls at Spirit can help you punk it up. Ed Hardy’s tattoo-themed tees and sweats hog nearly half the real estate of this spare store, with chunky black boots, cargo pants, studded belts and gauzy burnout tees rounding out the decidedly defiant collection.  The pale walls are virtually embellishment free, letting double-stacked racks of multicolored tees do all the decorating.  Hudson and Miss Me jeans in the season’s hottest silhouettes can be paired with femme-y sweaters and tanks from Free People, or austere screen-printed jersey tops in black, white, and gray from Faith.

Tucked in shop’s wayback, across from the dressing rooms, are cubbies of sale items and a few pairs of bargain shoes.  Be sure to poke around in the piles, as some damn decent deals can often be found.  And a surprising find for a store with such a specific, edgy look: Spirit peddles a fantastic collection of basic tees by Grass Roots.  A little on the pricey side but crafted using super high-quality fabrics, these tees come in a mind-blowing rainbow of fruit flavors. The shop carries short sleeve, long sleeve, and tank versions of most color options, and several styles of neckline.  If you’re willing to invest a little more in your layers, this collection is well worth investigating.

Generally, this boutique’s clientele will be teens and twenties, or those wishing to recapture their teens and twenties.  But everyone needs a pair of motorcycle boots and a hoodie with ‘tude to keep the closet from getting too staid.  So slap on your scowliest face, and come pick out some punk.
