Proprietor Joy Teiken may have designed for Hollywood celebs, but there’s no snobbery to be found in this tiny, homey storefront tucked away in a largely residential area of South Minneapolis. Pass beneath the unassuming green awning, and you’ll find yourself entering a wonderland of romantic femininity.

Dimly lit and a bit crowded, the space is still remarkably welcoming. Ribbon, fabric, and embellishments are stacked from floor to ceiling in the back half of the shop, shimmering quietly against the pale green walls. The space serves as a studio, too, and Teiken may be fitting a bride for her custom-made gown as you browse. The front area showcases gorgeous handmade dresses and toppers, all small-run or one-of-a-kind and all crafted from the finest of fabrics. You’ll see everything from red and white polka-dotted strapless bubble dresses to floor-length iridescent oyster-colored evening gowns, all so beautifully designed that they’ll take your breath away.

Quality and originality come at a price, and although Joynoelle has wicked sales on occasion, most of these dresses are investment pieces. But well worth the bank: Who doesn’t want to feel like a walking work of art once in a while?
