Cliché is dark as a den. Perhaps it’s the deep red walls, or the jam-packed floor, or the fact that the store is so deep and narrow that many garments never feel the warm sun that streams through its front windows. Or perhaps it’s all three.  But brave the gloom, my friends, for this gem of a boutique never fails to deliver an object-lust-inspiring selection of gorgeous goods.

A towering display of handcrafted earrings and vintage necklaces greets you on entry, while a stack of shelves to the right offer a tasteful selection of PVC and handmade leather bags, clutches and wallets.  The first big rack on the left, facing the front counter, typically proffers new arrivals, including both timeless duds that appeal no matter what the mags are saying, and edgier garments that reference current trends in the most delightfully oblique manner.  Architectural blouses from Industry hang alongside Nikita sweats and sumptuously soft Lizzie Parker knits.  Irresistibly detailed Skunkfunk dresses compete for attention with Tulle’s classically-styled solid sweaters, hip Soundgirl hoodies, and swishy silk sundresses from Kensie.

This shop proudly showcases small runs and one-of-a-kind pieces from local clothing and accessory designers, including Panther Yang, Anthem Heart, and Lish. Racks on the left side of the shop just before the dressing rooms hang heavy with creatively constructed jackets, miniskirts, and dresses bearing handwritten price tags from Twin Cities artisans. And although some of these aspiring fashion mavens are still cutting their teeth, many offer truly unique and inspiring pieces at rock-bottom prices.
A small stack of denim from Guido and Mary leans against the tiny dressing rooms, and a few pairs of stylish slacks may be scattered throughout the store, but Cliché is primarily expert in dresses and tops. Sweaters, vests, hoodies, blouses, and tees are all cultivated with equal skill by buyer/owner Delayna Sundberg, and no matter your style or taste – be it rocker, bombshell, femme, or tomboy – you’re sure to find a top that fits your needs.  And the dress selection will make you sigh with longing: Strappy sundresses, fitted wiggle dresses, slinky sweater dresses, and fabulous frocks of all description pack the house year-round. Although you won’t find a ton of fancy evening dresses, just about every other style from day to cocktail is available in abundance.
